Hundreds of tiny (sebaceous) glands lie beneath the skins surface. The function of the sebaceous gland is to collect and excrete the oily substance called sebum to keep the skin healthy. If the pathway to the sebum to escape becomes clogged, a bacterium called p. acnes grows inside. After a short time the area swells and forms a pimple. At certain times of life the process becomes very active and hard to control. |
